SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE:

Dear Standard School District Families,

Welcome to a new school year! It is with great excitement and gratitude that I welcome our students, families, staff, and community back to another year of learning, growth, and opportunity. As I begin my first year serving as Superintendent of the Standard School District, I am honored to continue working alongside a community that is deeply committed to the success of every child.

As your Superintendent, I believe every child deserves to be known, challenged, supported, and inspired every day they walk through our school doors. Every decision we make—whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in the boardroom—will be guided by one simple question: Is this in the best interest of our students? That commitment will continue to shape our work as we strive to provide an exceptional educational experience for every Standard School District student.

Last school year was one of great accomplishments. Across our district, students achieved meaningful academic growth, classrooms were filled with engaging learning experiences, and our schools created countless opportunities for students to learn, connect, and grow. These successes are a direct reflection of the dedication of our outstanding teachers, staff, Board of Trustees, families, and community partners who work together every day to support our students.

As we look ahead, our district is united around a simple but powerful belief: students thrive when they are in school every day and develop the strong literacy skills that open doors to future opportunities. Guided by that belief, our two district priorities this year are Literacy and Attendance.

Literacy is more than learning to read—it is the foundation for learning in every subject and for success beyond the classroom. Our commitment is to ensure every student develops the reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills needed to become confident learners, effective communicators, and lifelong problem-solvers. Through high-quality instruction, targeted intervention, meaningful access to books, and engaging learning experiences, we are building a community of curious readers and empowered learners.

Attendance is equally essential to student success. Every school day provides valuable opportunities for academic growth, meaningful relationships, and personal development that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere. When students attend school consistently and arrive on time, they remain connected to their teachers, classmates, and learning. We encourage every family to partner with us in making daily attendance a priority because every day matters, and every student matters.

Supporting these priorities is an important districtwide schedule change that begins this school year. Standard School District will transition from Late Start Mondays to Early Release Wednesdays. This change provides students and families with a consistent school start time every day of the week while giving our teachers dedicated collaboration time to analyze student data, strengthen instructional practices, and plan engaging lessons that directly support student learning and achievement.

Please note that this change begins on the very first day of school, Wednesday, August 12. Because dismissal times vary by school, we encourage all families to check with their student's school for Wednesday dismissal times. Thank you for your partnership and flexibility as we implement this positive change for our students and staff.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. This year, we will continue expanding opportunities for students to discover new interests, develop new talents, and build lasting friendships through our Explore Expanded Learning Program and district athletic offerings. Students will have opportunities to participate in engaging enrichment activities such as robotics, music appreciation, coding, art, cooking, sewing, dance, podcasting, and many other hands-on experiences that spark creativity and curiosity. Our athletic programs-including flag football, volleyball, basketball, track and field, cheer, and E-Sports-continue to grow, providing students with opportunities to build teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and school pride. We are also excited to continue offering meaningful real-world learning experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Supporting the whole child remains central to everything we do. Our schools are committed to providing safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, connected, and supported. Through dedicated counselors, wellness coaches, behavior specialists, intervention staff, and strong partnerships with community organizations, we will continue providing the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support students need to thrive.

Strong schools are built through strong partnerships with families. Parents and caregivers are our students' first and most influential teachers, and your partnership is essential to our success. Throughout the year, we look forward to welcoming families to literacy nights, school events, parent education workshops, volunteer opportunities, and other activities that strengthen the connection between home and school. Together, we can create an environment where every child is encouraged, challenged, and celebrated.

I am incredibly optimistic about the year ahead. Standard School District is home to exceptional students, dedicated employees, engaged families, and a community steeped in a culture of pride that believes deeply in public education. Together, we will continue building upon our successes, embracing new opportunities, and preparing every student for a bright and successful future.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support. I cannot wait to see all that our students accomplish this year.

Together, we will learn, lead, and achieve—because every student deserves our very best, every single day.

Here's to an incredible school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Angie Summers
